Change of plans

as you can see, it's not 3:30 AM Saturday morning and we're just getting back in from Nashville.... the leave time for the Tunica trip has been moved from 9:30 AM to closer to noon.

I hope J-mo sees this, because I can't find his home email address... so if you're reading this, and it's early, go back to bed. LOL

Let us all rejoice

as Java Boo Boo makes his return to the corporate engineering world. The interview went quite well this morning, so well in fact that I just got the confrimation call, and they want to bring me onboard.

So I'm back baby!

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I know I said, I would never go back, and honestly I had no intention of ever going back into engineering. But a few weeks ago I was externally influenced (subconsciously perhaps) to obtain a job with a steady paycheck.

Oh, and the line I was giving everyone about the fact that my dad retired, and that's why I was looking for a job because he's at home all day... well that was a lie. That's not the reason I'm doing this.

the friday five

ARGH!!!!! There is no Friday Five this week!!!

EL Crapo.

Le Crappy Poo.

It's 1:00 AM and I've been trying to get to sleep since 11:30 PM.

Guess what. It's not happening for some unfathomable reason.

The Java Boo Boo Experience

Things have just been so busy lately, I haven't had time to blog. Deliveries, making contacts, making copies, editing, polishing etc etc. Crazy. But hey, I'm getting $$$ so that's good.

Tonight Jeff and I met up for the usual Thursday billiards at The Brick. It was dead up there. Wow. Cruised to Applebee's and ate a little bit. Now I'm here, Jon emailed me some stuff that he recorded at the jam session the other night., one of which is linked below. Check it out.

Here is a little snip-it (1.8 MB ~ mp3 ~ 2 min) ... it's like recorded with a miniDisc player and a single mic.. the recording has this open-airy "Jimi Hendrix Experience/Led Zepplin" kind of sound quality. Ummm yes, believe it or not, that's me on the guitar... gettin' all down and funky with it: a'la a little S.R.V-ish... there are no scales or arpeggios or sweeps. It's all funk baby. LOL I didn't even know I could do that.

On Saturday morning Jeff, Jon, and I will be making our way to Tunica for the WPBA 9-ball tourney. Hopefully ESPN will be there again, and we'll get to be on TV. That was so great last year! Woooooo!

Ok, so like Wednesday I'm waiting to get my haircut... I'm sitting there facing the door, and this milf walks in with her 2 little boys. First of all I'm about to bust out laughing because I'm thinking, "Wow, there is a milf sitting less than 3 feet away from me" and then as her kids are tearing up the place, I'm reminded how thankful I am that I am single and don't have any kids. Man that was annoying right there. I mean, it's like the kids were in "Destruct" mode... throwing the toys around and stuff. I was like, "Good Lord lady, control your heathen kids."

Late night munchies

Clearly I should have gone out for a steak tonight after jamming at Jon's, because it's 2:00 a.m. and I'm hungry. I just ate 1/2 a bag of doritos and am eating an ice cream drumstick as I type this ... with my left hand.

Well I'm sure that's all really healthy for me. I'd better go pop a multi-vitamin. LOL

Talked to Jeff for a little bit tonight, and he is sick as a dog... so like dude, stay away from me. You'd better be all better by Friday too, otherwise, we're going to quarantine you and turn you into bubble boy, for the car ride to Tunica this weekend.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

Anyways, not much is going on here in Decatur, Alabama at 2:00 in the morning... I can't wait until Summer gets here.

Different Tuesday Night

Made it to the gym at 5:30 and did bi's, back, and abs. Came home drank a myoplex, hopped in the shower, and headed to Jon's to jam out for a while. That went well. Ended up leaving around 9:45. Came home, and worked on packaging those 50 audio CD's for a client of ours. Gotta deliver them tomorrow. That's about it. I'm out. Cya.

I'm Back Baby!

Ok let met share a bit of wisdom with you...

It's not a good idea to decide to type in the text "Format C:" at the MS-DOS prompt when it is 11:30 PM at night.

What is normally a very easy process (rebuilding a computer) turned out to be a real chore, as I was up until about 5:00 AM this morning trying to reinstall everything. I ran into a bunch of "missing dll's"... so finally this afternoon at 2:00 PM, after fiddling with it for 3 hours, I just decided to install Windoz XP. Everything works fine now. It's taken me 1.5 hours to install all the other software.

Gah.

Busy Day, again

Another action packed day here in Decaturville. Woke up at 8:45 am. Hopped in the shower and headed to church. Everything went pretty smoothly this morning. Dave's dad spoke today about the mission of the Gideon's. It was very informative.

Afterwards, I came home and finished up the Kid's Expo video copies. Met up with Braswell and dropped off the Bishop Black DVD. He liked it , so kewl. Went by the PO and FINALLY the check we've been waiting for, for like months, was there. So now we can pay everyone. LOL Came back home and packed up all the VHS tapes so I can mail them out tomorrow. Also our first website, non-company related, went live today: www.jaredashley.com. So that was the excitement of the afternoon. It's really only about 70% done (gotta work on some content, and grammer), but it needed to be out there quickly, because he's inking a deal with a major record label.

Met up with Jon, Eric, and Wendy around 5:00 and we headed to Cullman to check out this new auditorium dedication service at a church down there. Jon knew the drummer, who was from Nashville, and there were some other studio musician's who came in to play along with an orchestra. It was pretty cool.

Afterwards we hung out with some of the guys from the band and talked. Eric got invited to a studio session in Nashville by the guy who plays bass for Amy Grant and Vince Gill. I ended up talking quite a bit to Dave (the guitar player) about his experiences in Nashville as a studio player. He was a real nice guy.

Went to Cracker Barrell for some grub and ended up seeing a lot of hotties. Cullman has a lot of hotties. LOL. Jon tried to snag some pics with his cell phone, but they must not have come out because he didn't email them to me. ROFL.

Well I'm talking to Em right now, and it looks like a trip to Bham is in the near future. Woooo. You know what that means... oh wait... I don't even know what that means.

A Nashville weekend: All the gory details for your enjoyment

Friday
This weekend got started off like any other weekend for the past 2 years.... with a trip to The Brick at 2:30 PM to shoot some pool. However that is where the similarities ended.

I cruised out of there around 3:30 and headed for Nashville. Went straight to Fork’s Drum Closet at exit 81 to pick up J-Mo’s drum stuff. Made it back down to exit 74 by 5:30 which was where Melody works. Yes she works exit 74. What?

Shane was there and we went to Brentwood Baptist at exit 71. Wow. That is a H-U-G-E church. It’s bigger than First Baptist in Huntsville, and that’s a big church. The rehearsal started promptly at 6:00 PM, and was over right at 7:00 PM. Everyone headed over to “The Puffy Muffin” which was a couple blocks away, for a gourmet dinner. It was a very hip/trendy/upscale/pricey place.

Here’s how you can tell you’re at a fancy-dancy high-falootin’ restaurant…. when they bring you out your salad, and instead of the usual iceberg lettuce… it’s the type of greens that resemble something that came out of your backyard… with that kind of “taste”… blech. You know what I’m talking about people?

Let me add here, I really have no idea what the _____ I was even eating at this dinner, which had about 50 people at it and was probably $30 -$40 a person. All I could identify were the pieces of chicken in the chicken casserole. There was some kind of meat entrĂ©e’ (which I scarfed down because it was delicious)… I think it was roasted pork. For dessert there was scrumptious chocolate cheesecake in custard sauce. I also drank about a gallon of sweet tea.

What is a water chestnut? I think that’s what this one dude said they were… some kind of something in the chicken casserole… It was kinda funny Melody was like, “I’m allergic to nuts” and he was like, “It’s not really a nut… that’s just what they’re called” and Shane was like, “Yeah Melody go ahead and eat one” and I said, “This is gonna be great you guys… Melody’s gonna get puffy at the Puffy Muffin’” Woooooooooooooo! The whole table was crakin’ up… because she like swells up or something when she eats nuts.

During dinner, we had a very kewl conversation with a high school senior, and a high school sophomore… we talked about Play Station 2 video games, and how well they liked their Saab and Volvo respectively… and how one of their high school friends had wrecked his dads Land Rover, and then wrapped a sport bike around a tree… and one of their other high school friend’s just got a new 350Z a couple weeks ago.

The dinner got over a little after 10:00 so we headed over to Chris and Lillian’s to meet up with them, Matt & Kathy, Courtney, and April. I haven’t seen them since over the summer. They are all really cool people and a lot of fun to hang out with. We talked for a while and ended up playing Mafia until about 12:30 in the morning. At which point we left because Melody had to be at work at 7:00 AM.

Got back to Shane’s house and worked on video stuff until around 3:00 AM.

Saturday
Woke up at 9:00 AM. At 10:00 AM, Shane and I headed over to “Colored Nails” to meet Jennifer (the bride) and Lauren (her sister) and film them getting their nails and stuff done.

Left the salon around 10:45 and headed to downtown Nashville (Vanderbilt area) to meet up with the previous crew from the night before at “Noshville”, because Josh was in town for a few days. I haven’t seen him since 2001. Oddly, I met him the same night I met Tammy.

Noshville is yet another trendy local dig that is a New York style deli. We all hung out (see picture LtoR: Courtney, Lillian, Chris, Me, Aprl, Josh, Mike - Josh's brother) for about an hour. The waiter was really an unpleasant fellow. I guess if I was in my 50’s and worked as a waiter in a restaurant a block from Vanderbilt and had to deal with rich spoiled kids everyday, I’d be jaded too. Was my grilled cheese and bacon sandwich worth $7.99 +$1.50 for a coke? No.

The whole scene down in that area is really awesome. We passed BOSCO’s pizza on the way… it’s like just a few blocks from Noshville deli. Bosco’s is where we all went with Becky Gelkie (sp) that night a few years ago. We had numerous lesbian sightings at that place too… interesting indeed. I’ll never forget, we walked in, sat down at our table and I looked around and was like, “Does anyone else notice anything odd here….. “ ROFL

After lunch, Shane and I headed back to the church. We set up cameras and everything. Aaron arrived at 2:30. I wasn’t expecting to see him until 4:00 PM. We all caught up on old times and just chilled out for a while. The wedding started at 5:30 and went very well. Oh, this wedding was our top of the line package, which is why we were there all day today and most of last night… for the value packed price of $2,699.00 we’ll be more than happy to show up at your wedding with a few cameras too ^_^ )

Of the 5 cameras we used during the ceremony, I was running 3 of them. So that was fun. There were about 400 people in attendance, and in that big sanctuary, it was like 1/20th full. LOL The reception went well and there was some DELICIOUS food. I had 3 ham croissants, some chicken kabob things, and some kind of fucilli noodles in sauce. The cakes were to die for too. Man we ate good!

Here’s something odd. A pianist was hired to play live music during the reception. She was very pretty and quite talented. I was impressed. So here I am over there filming her and stuff, scenery for the video you idiots.... and during the rest of the reception whenever I would look over her way, she’d look up and smile at me. I don’t know what that means, so I just turned the other way and kept on filming. wtf. After it was all over, she was sitting out in the hallway by the parlor where the bridesmaids had been getting ready, so I walked over and complemented her on her playing and she gave a sincere thank you. So that was nice. I guess. Eh.

Got back to Shane’s house around 9:00 PM. Did a few things, and then I headed out a little after 10:00 PM. On my way home I was trying to find something to listen to on the radio and I came across this gem of a show....

SeX WiTh Dr. Natasha
{AM1100 WTAM out of Cleveland for those on the Tennessee/Alabama state line area}

male caller: I just don’t know what happened, I’ve lost my sex drive
Dr. Natasha: How long have you been dating?
male caller: 3 months how.
Dr. Natasha: Well that certainly is a short amount of time for you to lose your sex drive.
male caller: We’ve tried a bunch of different things, but it’s just not like it was in the beginning.
Dr. Natasha: Have the 2 of you talked about it?
male caller: Well John and I have a little bit.

[at which point I just about drove off the road and hit a big concrete pylon]

On an unrelated note, Am I the only one who sees some irony in the station call letters and the overall subject matter of the show?

Anyways, this is only the second time I’ve heard her radio show. I had no idea a show like that would be aired here in the Bible belt. It takes the old MTV Love Line show to the next level… I guess it’s like that show with that old lady that comes on Oxygen about this time on Saturday nights. No idiots, I don’t watch it, I don’t even have cable TV. Tammy forced us to watch it while we were at the lake house. Ok, maybe forced isn’t the right word to use.... Some of the phrases uttered that night were along the lines of, “Good Lord…. you do what with that?” and “There is no way…. “, and “Holy crap.” Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

The first time I ever even heard of Dr. Natasha was last year when Shane and I were up in Louisville covering a Vipers arena football game. On the way back, I was channel surfing and I ran across the show.

Wasn't that a most interesting foray into the world of radio?

Ok, I got home at 11:45, and I pretty much immediately began typing this… so I’ve been going at it for a while now. I need to sleep

Thanks for reading!

the friday five

the friday five: "When was the last time you...

1. ...went to the doctor?
Let's see... it's been about a month now. I still need to have this cyst exorcized from my left wrist interior area. It's not getting any bigger, but it's not getting any smaller either. LOL

2. ...went to the dentist?
6 months ago.. I have an appt in a couple weeks.

3. ...filled your gas tank?
Well, now that I don't have to drive anywhere (small ROFL) I don't have to fill it up every 3 days like I use to. It's been about a week now.

4. ...got enough sleep?
Well I try and get 8 hours a night... so like last night I went to bed at 4 AM and got up at noon.... If I go to bed at midnight I get up at 8. It just all depends.

5. ...backed up your computer?
You know, I don't really do that per se, I am in the process of cleaning off my HD on this one, because I'm going to do a FORMAT C:/ when I get back from Nashville.

I think someone has hacked on here and is using mine as a porn server. Oh wait. Nevermind. What? ROFL

-------------------------------------------------------
In other news
It's almost 2:00 AM, and I'm burning the Bishop Black DVD as we speak. Gotta go test it on my home theater ... I had some level issues with some of the songs. My trusty Boston Lynnfield VR series speakers will ferrett out any audio anamolies! :)

I spent about 2.5 hours tonight learning how to make DVD menus. It's a little more complicated than one would imagine. No wonder people have been telling us to get into the DVD authoring arena... man you can make some $$$$$ developing menu structures for DVD's... not to mention all the graphic design that goes into it.. which I'm becoming quite adept at.

Man my legs are really starting to get sore. That's gonna be great for Saturday.. running all around filming a wedding. LOL Got a hold of Aaron tonight, since he's going to school in Nashvegas, he's coming to help us do the ceremony, so that's kewl.

Well I guess I've got about 20 minutes or so to go on this DVD thing... it's the formatting of the disc that is killer... even though the entire project is 6.5 minutes long, it takes like an hour to format the DVD. Argh.... or was Howard Dean would say, "RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" ROFLMAO

Billiards Recap
I forgot to mention earlier, I had an absolutely awesome break during one of the games. I pocketed 3 solids and placed 2 stripes and another solid right in front of the pockets... almost ready to fall in. But alas, I also made the cue ball on that break. LOL

SO nice

Man it was beautiful outside today. I finally got in bed around 4:00 AM this morning. The Bishop Black DVD is coming together quite nicely. Woke up at noon. Met Q at the gym and did bi's and back at 1:00. Came home. Washed the car, vacuumed it and then ate some dinner. Jeff came into town around 6:30 and we shot some pool at THe Brick, and made a run to Office Depot so I could get some organizer things for the office. Made the usual run to Applebee's. Just now getting in.

Daily Funny from the other week
[We are walking out of Applebee's... and there is a steady in flux of old people walking in.. so much so that we can't get out]

K: Good Lord, what's the deal... is there a geritol convention going on here tonight?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Working Late

Well I'm having the usual late nigther at the office. It's about 12:30 in the morning right now, and I'm rendering some video footage... woo! I've been working on this video ever non stop since around 8:30 tonight. Ok, actually, I've been working on stuff for the DVD menu since 8:30 and I must say, it is going to be quite awesome, if I can get all the various components to play nice nice. LOL (mp2's, wav's, and psd's... with some alpha channels and various matting going on)

I made it to the gym around 4:30 today. Did legs. Saw Lori up there and she mentioned that they are playing at The Brick tomorrow night, upon which I told her I had seen that on The Toe earlier in the day. So I guess I'll go check them out tomorrow night.

Band practice went decent I guess. Got some new mateiral to learn so that helps keep things fresh. Ok, back to it.

What a beautiful day

too bad I'm not outside doing stuff. LOL It's supposed to be 65 tomorow so we'll see how that goes. It's been a really busy day. Lots going on and stuff. Had a great lunch in Huntsville. Stopped by the studio and saw pics of JS's new baby girl. Cute. Makes me want to have one and start a family. Ok not really, but he's really happy so that's kewl.

Daily Funny... or disturbing funny...
S: You know, you hurt Stephen's feelings the other night....
Me: Ummm. What? Who?
S: Stephen, the guy who sorta waited on you and Jeff Friday night.
Me: What's his problem?
S: When you left he was all like, "Your 'friends' only left you a dollar tip." So I explained how you are a lunchtime regular, and came over and paid for your's and left a $3 tip. And then he got all upset.
Me: What's his problem? Good Lord
S: Well he's gay you know.
Me: I knew something had to be wrong with him, because I looked over there one time and he looked like he was about to start crying because we had requested you to wait on us.

Why can't I sleep?

I have no idea... Ok, well, Yes, I do have an inkling as to why I can't sleep. I've been in bed since like 11:30 PM (CST), but alas, here I am now... up again, and online. Is anything going on with anyone else at this hour? I see Q is online... and that's about it. Where are the rest of you? LOL

I know one of the things that is weighing on my mind is, I'm still debating about getting the Eric Johnson tix. But $31.50... that's a chunk right there. That's the issue with that. Of course, he is one of the last living guitar greats I really want to see... and he will be really close... GAH.

Gah I gotta get to bed. I have to work in the morning. Oh wait. ROFL Woooooooooooooooo!!

Hmmm... hang on... what's this? I just got an email from Boeing with more potential jobs for me. LOL I don't know, but I find that extremely entertaining... Hang on while I go apply for some of them real quick.

Ok, I'm back... wow they were looking for Pro/E guys, and that's what I do, and there were 3 slots open, so I applied for all 3. Kewl.

Allrighty well, I'm going to go surf the boob tube for a bit.

OH MAN!! and Happy Anniversary To Me

Eric Johnson is coming to the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville on March 6th... TIX are $31.50. Wow, that is going to be a killer show, I'm sure.

Just gettin' in from a fantastic dinner at the Steak House in Moulton (the best steaks in N.AL.) I'm stuffed. Gotta work on a few things here and then it's off to bed.

~~~ Happy Anniversary ~~~~
I completely forgot to mention that, February 15, 2004 marked the 1-year anniversary of my first blog entry! So much has happened, and so much has changed over the past year. I thank everyone for reading and look forward to providing you with entertainment and fodder for many years to come!
In other news...
Reading Dave's blog makes me really like uncomfortable. LOL Glad to hear you're doing ok... kinda. I guess. Everything will be back to normal soon enough though. Just relax and take it easy.
In even other news...
There seems to be a big hub-bub over this new Mel Gibson movie. I saw all kinds of tid-bits of interviews with Diane Sawyer last night on E.T. I'm not sure what to make of the whole thing. I guess I should go brush up on some biblical stuff. I'm looking forward to this new study we're starting at church in a couple weeks ... going through the old testament. Should be fun.
The last news of the day...
Only a handful of days remain until the 2004 WPBA 9-ball tourney in Tunica, MS. I'm really looking forward to that. If it's just a smidgen as fun as it was last year, it'll be worth it. We had some amazing times. Good luck to all the ladies!
OH yeah, I forgot to mention
This is random, but at the Kid's Expo over the weekend, that same cute girl who was selling last minute VD gifts at the Jazz Facotry, was at the VBC South Hall on Saturday morning. I managed to avoid her. LOL
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Got all my tax stuff rounded up I think. Gotta do a last minute check of the house for any receipts dated 2003 and see if I can use them as a deduction. One of the perks of being self employed I guess. I wish they would make clothing a deduction again.
Gotta find out about the whole guitar teaching thing too... if I can claim the 'set-up' and required accessories (Strings, books, website registration, and crap) as part of some kind of "Start-up" costs or something.
The Road To Recovery
I must say, sleep is good. Once again, I'm feeling even better today, so that must mean that I've recovered from whatever ailment I was inflicted with. Just got done talking to Q, and it looks like a trip to the gym is going to happen around 1:00 PM today. Wooooo.
I ended up working pretty hard last night, made all the copies that I could of the Kids Expo things... ran out of tapes, ordered some more and also some padded shippers. Did some graphic design work, and practiced guitar for about 2 hours.
Man this room is a mess again. I gotta clean it up, and then go get my taxes taken care of. Fun fun fun.
You know, last night I was watching TV. It was about 2:00 AM, and I gotta say, what is the deal with some of these info-mercials... Seriously. Everything from pyramid schemes to real estate schemes to the most amazing vacuum ever created... I forgot what my point was, other than, do people actually fall for this kind of gimmick?
Hopefully everyone is having a good day today! Only 3 days to go until the weekend!
Better
First of all I woke up feeling much much better today, so that's good. Still got a little cough and the sniffles, but I can tell I'm just about over this 10 day bout with the sickness.
Got most of Jared's website tweaked, and added a new type of java script image/slideshow/thumbnail viewing system to the photos page. I added a layer of color #d5d5e9 with an opacity of 35% to the image at the top of this page.. I think it helped make it 'not so busy'.
Now I'm sitting here listening to this 34 year old middle-income guy call in on Rush Limbaugh complaining about the Bush tax cuts, and how he only makes $50,000 a year and now only sees an extra $13 a paycheck ($338/year). He's like, "What am I supposed to do with that?"
Naturally my first thought is, he probably needs to double check his employer withholdings, to bump up his monthly income and also to make sure he's not getting a large tax refund... as we all know, large tax refunds are bad.
Second, investing that extra $28 a month in a good mutual fund which has historically averaged 12% over it's lifetime, would yield $167,000 over the next 35 years of his life. Grant it, $167,000 is not a lot of money, but it's better than nothing. Just add that $28 to an existing investment plan, and NOW you're talking about some growth.
Ok that's my financial rant for the day. Wow, it's been a while since I've done one of those. LOL
Over Kill?
Well I spent some time... ok like... almost 3 hours... working on the image above. About 2.5 hours was spent searching through my archives and online at other people's sites to find the pics, and then 30 minutes to assemble it all. Of the 30 minutes... half of it was spent trying to figure out how to draw the "star" in Photoshop. ROFL. It ain't easy.
At first it was only like a few pics, and then I kept finding more... and before I knew it I had however many are up there now... so I decided to keep it. It's a little fat and busy, but that's too bad, because I'm not changing it now. LOL
btw: I hope your screen rez isn't anything less than 1024x768.
btww: Is that geeky that I can just spout out the major resolutions that monitors run at? 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024 (which is what mine is), and 1600 x 1200? I'm sure there are others... but those are the ones I know.
In other news...
Jeff called around 6 PM and said he was going to Applebee's. I had just laid down on the couch and was about to pass out... I was about 7 minutes into "League of Extrordinary Gentlemen" or something... the bank robbery scene....turned all that crap off and went up to check out the action at Applebee's. Beth was working. Jeff gave her his VD gift, and then I gave her my VD gift. Wow, that reads really funny doesn't it? Try saying it to yourself out loud. ROFL
Nisha called me earlier in the day. She needed some help with some video stuff... I told her I had the sickness and she was like, "Didn't you have that at the first of December?" and I was like, "Ummm yeah... it's back." So we decided to postpone that for a bit.
Wow it's late. This is probably why it's taking me so long to recover, I'm not getting enough sleep... I just need to sleep for like 2 days straight. I think I'll do that starting tonight.
Let me give out a Howard Dean RAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Daily Funnies
I'm gradually getting back into the swing of my New Year's resolution... but I had a few instances of WOMP this past week. So in this therapy session, I'll be telling you the stories behind the incidents.
First I let a hellfire missle loose at Beth, the other day at Applebee's. I think it went something like this:
Beth: You look depressed
Me: Well it's valentine's day and I'm single
Beth: Well I'm working tomorrow night... keeping busy
Me: Well I'll probably be up here... us single folks gotta stick together... whatever the hell that means.
Then the other night at The Brick I let loose a sidewinder-S edition on Michelle:
Michelle: [cleaning table] Well I treated myself to Valentine's day yesterday. I broke up with my bf earlier in the week and so I went out shopping and got a massage and stuff.
Me: Well all I know is we've got.... [Picks up cell phone] .... 3.5 hours to go until this $--- is over with.
And this little exchange that happened at the Jazz Factory was precious:
[Hot blonde selling last minute VD gifts to the guys shooting pool]
[Approaches Bone]
Her: Would you like to purchase a gift for that special someone in your life?
Him: I don't really have a special someone....
Her: Not even your mother?
Him: I've already gotten her something... [Bone looks my way, points and says]
Him: Go talk to him, don't let him lie to you, he's got a special someone
[The girl approaches and looks me over]
Her: Well you look like the type of guy who has his stuff together.
Me: Yep, you're right... I sure do... it's all taken care of.
Her: Thought so.
[Girl walks off]
Bone: Wow that may have been the biggest one you've ever told.
Done
Wow ok. So after working on this video for the past... 4.5 hours or so, I'm done. Wow, I'm freakin' tired. I think I need to go lay down.
Snow? Here? Nah
Well I gotta say this morning's church service went quite well. Even though we played some pretty slow kind of stuff, everything came together quite nicely. It was pretty crowded today too, which I'm sure helped with some of the sound issues.
Came home and begun working on the Kids Expo video... I captured it all last night. Everything is going smoothly so far. I'm about 1/2 way done, and I just decided to go back and change a few things though... so essentially I'm losing an hours worth of work, but it's no big deal.
Looks like a run to Applebee's is probably going to be in the works a little later. Man, I am still sick... coughing, sore throat etc. Gah. I hope I get better by next weekend before that wedding.
Looks like snow is (has been) predicted. But uhh... I don't really see any yet.
I was listening to Erin's audio blogs, and wow... she's in Key West. That place is so kewl. I love it there, for the most part. Oh well, back to work.
2.5 hours to go
Until today is over with. It can't possibly come quick enough.
Number of times I almost pulled out in front of an oncoming 18-wheeler tonight: 3x. LOL
Flat Worn Out
Today's shoot went pretty smooth. The crew at TV Channel 19 did a great job of making us feel right at home... and they fed us well too. To me, that's the best part of these kinds of gigs... the press room and all the great food. LOL
Tag and I got a 20 minute break to eat about 2/3 of the way through the show. While under any normal situation, I would be not satisfied with a 20 minute lunch break (as most of you know, I typically demand a 2-hour minimum lunch break from all employers), I was so caught up in everything that was going on, and making sure I had good footage, there was no time to even think about eating really.
See my friends, that's how you can tell you have a good job. When you just want to work, and work, and work.
Turns out, my camera shot was the one being used for the live air feed to Knology Channel 11 in Huntsville today. So that was pretty cool... and intense... no pressure. what?
I was like the lead camera guy. Woooooo. Well, I was the only live feed camera guy anyway. LOL Be sure to check out WHNT next Saturday at 6:30. At least I think that's when they are going to air the dance portion we filmed. It's either Saturday or Sunday. Kewl.
Now it's almost 6:00 PM, and I've got a ton of work to get done before next Friday... which marks the beginning of our wedding season. Wooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Busy Day
Well I'm ready to go. Looks like there's gonna be about 350 performers in today's show at the Von Braun Center. I gotta load up the car and then call Tag, and I'll be out of commission until around 5:00 PM today.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
Well... it's here
V.D. ......... Valentine's Day that is. Only 23 hours and 9 minutes to go....
Good Lord, I have to be up in a few hours to start getting ready for the video shoot. I'm going to be draggin' tail.
Anyways, hung out in Huntsville most of the night. Man the nightlife here just sucks. Have I mentioned that before? Shot some pool at the Jazz Factory and then headed over to Applebee's for some food.
Nightly Funnies
J: Wow, Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day back to back... if we make it through this, we'll be doing pretty good.
[While listening to George Noorey on Coast to Coast talk about Fri 13th and superstitions]
guest: .... they would portend....
K: New Word! Portend!
J: As in, Kyle and I portend to have girls...oh wait that's pretend.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
The Friday Five
This Friday Five is gonna be boring for most of you:
1. Are you superstitious?
Um. Not really... but like there are certain things I have to do. Like whenever Q and I are running at Wilson Morgan park, I must always be on the left. Or like at the gym, when I do cable chest presses, I always grab the left handle first, and then reach across for the right handle Is that like OCD? Or just anal retentive? I dunno. Weird.
2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition?
None that I can think of. I don't know anyone who is really superstitious.
3. Believer or not, what's your favorite superstition?
Black cat runs in front of you, you have bad luck... at least I think that's one of them. I'm also fond of whichever one it is where lightening is involved. LOL. opening an umbrella inside? and what's the deal with walking under ladders?
4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual?
As far as luck in casino's go? No. I gambled $1 in nickels in Biloxi one time and didn't win anything. So I'm out on that.
I don't have any lucky numbers or clothing or rituals.
5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?
No. Because I've been reading my horoscope in the paper for years, and it's never been right.... really. LOL I mean, it's like so vague generally, that it can apply to just about any situation at any time.
It is fun to read though, and occassionallywill make me stop and think about issues that I'm facing with a different point of view. So that's always good.
===================================
Oddly, I just checked my horoscope for fun on Yahoo... today's was a little lame, so I hit the "TOMORROW" button and and here is what it said for Valentine's day:
"Some vivid and interesting dreams could bring a lot of old, repressed memories up from the past and force you to confront them. This could be a bit disconcerting, dear Capricorn, but it's nonetheless a positive development. Psychological obstacles to both financial success and romantic happiness could well be cleared away, which could change your life. Therefore, it is vital that you write down your dreams. You won't want to miss out on this!"
Now, actually, that is pretty interesting. Especially the 3rd sentence. LOL
Happy Birthday and Down with the Sickness
First of all, Happy Birthday to Jeff aka Bone aka Little Nibbler!!!
This Thursday was no different from any other Thursday night for the past 3.5 years. Shot pool at The Brick and then cruised to Applebee's. Now I'm here doing this. Wooooo.
Second of all, what the crap is the deal being sick? I've been under the weather more in the past 6 months than I ever have my entire life. I eat better than I use to, I'm exercising more regularly, I'm living healthier... I've quit drinking and smoking. Oh wait. LOL (That's a joke for those of you who don't know: I've never smoked, and I don't drink)
Seriously though I mean it's like everyone is just sick all the time... the recurring sickness. It seems to cycle mostly between Kevin, Stacey, Kailyn, J-Mo, Me, Elizabeth, Amber, her kids, Lara, and Jordan. Odd that we're the only ones who get sick, and who happen to see each other on Wednesday's and Sunday's.
Jeff came into town tonight, and he was sucking on some vitamin C drops, in an attempt to maintain his barrier of protection against the forward marching ranks of Mordor. Oh wait, my analogies got mixed up.
I ran out of Myoplex today, so I ordered 18 more pacakges for $45.00. Ran into Eric at the gym this afternoon, he was leaving as I was walking in. I had a decent leg workout, but due to not eating enough for breakfast, and skipping lunch, I just had no energy to push the weights around, so I was completely worn out after about 40 minutes.
Got more calls today about jobs around here, and elsewhere. I'm hoping I can land one in Huntsville, for at least 6 months so I can buy myself a little time.
"Saying I love you, Is not the words I want to hear from you, It's not that I want you, Not to say, but if you only knew, How easy it would be to show me how you feel....."
Wednesday, February 11, 2004
I found this animated web video
to be a little bit... ummm... well.. you'll see. Odd that it should appear at this time of the year. Oh wait.
Busy (Amended)
Man that fun never stops around here. Shipped out some videos, went by the bank, went to Hartselle to make some deliveries... I'm fixing to eat some lunch. Shane called. Something interesting happened to him today at work. ROFLMAO
WOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Well that's about it for now.
-- Amendment: 9:21 PM --
I did manage to make it to the gym this afternoon and work biceps, back, shoulders, and abs. Q was out of town in Bham, and we'll probably hit up chest and tri's on Friday, which means I gotta go do legs tomorrow afternoon. Woooo.
Went to band practice tonight. It was a little rough around the edges, but not too bad, considering I didn't print out any music to look at.
Made it over to BAM for a bit and then headed home, and just got done eating some Eggo's. LOL Now that is healthy right there my friends.
Good Lord, I am still coughing like a first time smoker. I've gone through a gallon of OJ in the past 2 days. Got one more in the fridge, then it'll be time to visit Wal-Mart again.
My life just got a whole lot more complicated (Amended)
This morning, at 9:20 AM, I got "the call"....
Now I know everyone is thinking I got the,
"Kyle.... I'm pregnant" call
or the
"Kyle.... you're going to be a father" call
but this time, I got the "We'd like to bring you in for an interview" call.
The good news is, it's in Florida
The bad news is, it's 180 degrees in the opposite direction from which I, at this point in my life, would like to be moving. *ahem* [clear throat]. For a variety of reasons.
I've got some serious things to ponder over the next few days.
-- AMENDMENT --
10:49 AM - Just got another call about a job in Huntsville this time. So now I'm wondering how long it's going to be before any of the companies in Nashville I submitted resumes to... last night.... call me. Hopefully soon. Oh man. GAH! Let me throw out a Howard Dean "RAHHHHHhhhhhhhh!!!"
"She rolls the window down, And she Talks over the sound, Of the cars that pass us by, And I don't know why, But she's changed my mind..."
Break Time
I've been going non-stop since Sunday afternoon. While I love it, I really need a break, so I'm fixing to take one. It really hit me on the way home from Nashville today... Today is Feb 10th. Holy crap man... where is the time going? GAH!
Gotta get back in the gym tomorrow, because I haven't been since Friday.
be my anti-valentine
This may be one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...meish dot org :: be my anti-valentine
Link taken from Erin's blog.
My favorite, "You'll do" ROFL
It was a rainy cold night
in Nashville, as 2 hard working businessmen were working diligently on some website design.... well ok, only one is working, and it can't be me because I'm blogging. ROFL
Today was an excellent day. First, the good news is, the realtor guy was VERY pleased with the photos and video we had gotten of the lake house.
The bad news is, well, there is more stuff he wants to add to what we already have... so that means we have to go back up there one weekend and take more footage... it may take more than one trip. But whenever we want it, the lake house is ours. Well that sucks. Oh wait. WOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
P A R T Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could things possibly be better? Absolutely not.
Technology note:
Oh, and after working with various flat panel monitors and such this evening... they still can not touch good ol tubes in a regular monitor for color reproduction and graphics work.
Save your $$$ for at least another year, and we'll see if they're better then.
Nightly Irony:
Just found out, I may have an upcoming job interview with Boeing. Whack huh. LOL Kewl.
So busy,
there is no time to be sick. I'm still battling this stupid sore throat.
Things I've been working on:
*designing Jared Ashley's new website
*getting ready for the Kid's fest thing on Saturday at the VBC
*splitting clips from the Bishop Black footage
*putting together that lake house video
*and on top of that, capturing some other footage we need for this project we did over the summmer... we can't find the originals so I've got to re-edit the entire thing. CRAPPY.
On top of that, I've got band practice tomorrow night, a fella coming over to the studio to record a song for his gf for v-day also tomorrow night, church band practice on Wednesday, and then seems like there are some other things going on too.
With all that is going on here, I may have to bail on playing at church this Sunday. We'll see.
the friday five
the friday five: "
It's Satuday, I'm running a day late. Forgive me.
1. What's the most daring thing you've ever done?
That's a toughie... I'd say either when I jumped off the 3rd platform at Point Mallard into the Olympic pool. Hey it's like 50 feet in the air man... or that time I got into that RV with those 5 people I didn't know so I could get a date with this one chick last year. Oddly, the anniversary of that stupidity is coming up next week, because it happened on Valentine's day 2003.
2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
Mother: Voting for a non-conservative politician
Friend: Getting Married (What?)
Significant Other: Non-Disclosure policy in effect here.
My question is, why is friend singular? Who only has one friend? That would be pathetic. LOL
3. On a scale of 1-10, what's your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it's a lifestyle)
I use to be a 3, never did anything risky.
Recently I've discovered a new self awareness, and have gone a bit extreme. I am now more along the lines of a 7. It's becoming a way of life.
4. What's the best thing that's ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
There was this one time when I made a move on this girl on the way back from trip. We ended up hooking up and went out for a while. I really liked her, she really liked me.
5. ... and what's the worst?"
Due to some communication malfunctions, it ended... badly. LOL Now she's married, and I'm not married. Crappy.
Terminator 3
Thanks to J-Mo for hooking me up with some DVD's earlier today. Just got done watching Terminator 3. It was pretty good, although I think the 15 minute chase scene was a bit overdone. Pretty good story though.
Fixing to eat some food and then pop in Lord Of The Rings, Fellowship of the ring, for a 4-hour extravaganza. LOL
I got an email from Philip Shouse earlier today. Their new band website is up and kicking. They are getting radio play on 102.9 The Buzz in Nashville. Killer man.
So Far So Good
After sleeping for about 14 hours, drinking a ton of Orange Juice, sucking on a bag of Ricola, and focusing on positive thoughts, it appears that I have been able to keep the sickness at bay.
I think I'm just going to stay inside all day and not do anything except sleep.
That will start right after I get back from the gym.
Friday, February 06, 2004
I am on the verge
OF BEING REALLY P-I-S-S-E-D OFF RIGHT NOW.
I woke up at 5:00 AM with a sore throat.
I managed to discover more weapons of mass profanity and went back to sleep, waking back up at 11:00 AM with it not being quite as bad.
It's a little after 9:00 PM and I can tell it's coming on again.
I'm going to bed right now.
If I wake up sick tomorrow morning....................
What an afternoon.
Well I must've had a killer workout because I can already feel it in my chest. I love that feeling! I hit up chest, back, triceps, and shoulders today... Wow. I was there for an hour and a half by myself on weights... Just got done talking to Q and we're going to hit up the gym tomorrow morning too.
I'm turning into a fanatic again... apparently. That'll be my 5th day in a row. And if you start from Saturday, I've been 6 times... I took Sunday off.
The reason for going so much? Simple:
(1) I have some major pent up frustration coming from somewhere and working out makes me feel a lot better.
(2) Spring Break is only 2 months away.
Jeff came into town and we hit up the Brick for a little billiards action. The place was dead. Cruised to Applebee's and hung out for a bit with Beth.
It has been raining non-stop all day. That kind of weather really makes it difficult to have any fun outside. Although, it was warm enough (in the 50's) to wear a short sleeve shirt today.
I've been dinking around in Photoshop most of the night. It's early for me, but I'm going to try and get back on some kind of normal sleep routine just in case I land one of these regular jobs one day.
504 Error. URL not found.
Hmm.... Hmmmmmmmmmmm...... Yep.... I think I made a major error earlier today. It went a little something like this:
Headhunter: Hi this is ____ with ____ I have found the perfect position for you.
Me: Ok, tell me about it.
Headhunter: Well first of all, are you willing to relocate?
Me: Well that kind of depends on the job itself...
Headhunter: Ok, well it's for an engineering design company in Denver Colorado. It's a 6 month contract with a follow up option.
Me: Ok....
Headhunter: It's doing some stuff in Pro/E and some analysis. The starting pay is $35/hr to $45/hr depending on your experience.
Me: Eh you know. I don't really like Colorado all that much. It's like cold and stuff... I'd prefer to stay between Nashville and Huntsville, really closer to Nashville.
GOOD LORD ALLMIGHTY. I more or less just turned down a job where I could have made $36,000 in 6 months.
I've got a few days to re-consider... oh man... I don't know. Wow. I just don't know....
I don't even like skiing, although I have no idea what that has to do with living out of a suitcase in Denver for 6 months. LOL
At dinner last night
Our waitress made a a comment about how much she hates her job and then made a suicide motion, gun to head. I was thinking, "Wow you'd fit in really well with our group" ROFL
As others have mentioned, Jon was working on getting the magic 7, but was unable to do so. I had mentioned I owned my own business making videos... at which point her q was, "What kind of videos?... " and I was like "Weddings, dance recitals... things like that" and she was all like, "So it's not porn?" ROFLMAO
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!!!
I neglected to tell her about our subsidiary "Don't Look Mom Videos" LOL Anyways, on the way out I handed her a business card. Hey she's 19 and has lots of friends I'm sure... they may need a wedding filmed.
Q and I are deciding whether or not to go to the gym today. I think we should. I want to go. Looks like billiards may happen later if we don't get washed downstream from all this rain. 6:30 PM. Be there or be left out.
Updating like a madman and an Easter Egg
Spent most of tonight working on graphics: designing the Bishop Black DVD menu and also doing much needed updating to the business website. Here are some of the panoramics Shane sent me a little while ago from the lake house retreat. For the reasonable price of $495,000 you can own this 3000 sq ft home! The main level has all hardwood floors and ceilings and lots of windows. The lower level is completely done in ceramic tile, also with lots of windows.
This is the outside, down the road, looking at the left side of the house. It has a magnificant deck/covered patio.
Here we have the spacious master bedroom.
This is personally my favorite room.... the finished studio style room downstairs with the covered patio outside 2 sets of double doors. Complete with it's own full bath, full kitchen, dining room, living room, and bed area.
Here we have the spacious living room. kitchen, and dining room on the main level. There is an absolutely breathtaking view of the mountains out of the windows.
Now that we're done looking a pictures from that totally cool house... I gotta say, that while I am applying for jobs like there is no tomorrow and my future depends on it.... what's really funny is, Boeing sends me a list of jobs each time a new req is placed in their job system and I automatically apply for the position.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Now THAT is funny. Of course what's going to be even funnier is when I get to go for an interview. Who knows, with this latest batch I just applied for about 10 minutes ago... I may actually get a call because I'm qualified for these, and there here in Decatur. Kewl. Where the eff were all these jobs 3 months ago???
Wednesday, February 04, 2004
I just remembered...
I need to get a hold of some like... old skool dance/groove music type stuff. If you happen to have any old skool Tone-Loc kind of stuff burned to a CD please let me know ASAP.
Also, if you've got any of the new skool kind of stuff, I need some of that too. Basically anything that's been a real break out and mega popular lately in dance/hip hop.
Thanks!
Lots going on
As usual, got the day started with a trip to the gym. Had a great Biceps workout. Should feel good tomorrow. Ran into Brian B. from church up there during his lunch hour.
Ran by the PO. I'm still waiting on a payment from one of our clients. I NEED THAT MONEY PRONTO TONTO!!!. That's the only downside of working for yourself... having to wait on the money to come in.
Q informed me today, he got a job offer in Nashville. Still undecided as to whether he'll take it , but I'm pretty sure he will.
I guess the big news is, I've got a head hunter working for me up there too. I don't care what kind of job it is, as long as it's a decent salary with benefits. Although, I really want more than just being friends with benefits. Wait, what are we talking about again?
I guess fate has taken control of the situation. Of course, I helped a little by sending out like a million resumes this past Thursday and Friday. So we'll see what happens on the job front.
btw, sorry to hear about Jeremy's accident in LA.. glad you're ok man!
I just found a new interview with Steve
It's pretty cool:
Steve Vai Interview
Stuffed
Just gettin' in from Applebee's. Sat with Beth and had the Southwest Combo platter... it was tasty!
Jeff stopped by with his digital camera and I his pics from the lake house vacation. I'll have to resize them and then will add them to the others on my website... maybe tomorrow.
So you dig the new song? You're gonna love the other ones. I'll try and get some bits from the other ones I've been working on for the past couple months.
Forgot to mention, I watched LOTR:The Two Towers for the first time last night. It was pretty good. Gotta give a shout out to Erin J. in Pensacola, FL for introducing me to all that a few years back.
Ok, I gotta get back to work on this house video thing. Peace out.
Celebrity Sighting
Jeff had it: A young Nicholas Cage... as a bus boy, before making it on the big screen.
Why Reflection? Random thoughts abound below.
After spending Sunday night with mostly married people and couples, this morning I was thinking about marriage and what it must be like to be married. I mean good lord, I'm 29 and not getting any younger you know. LOL Ok, I deleted all the random thoughts I had.
Can someone hand me that revolver on the table over there?
Brain Status: Inactive.
Your Brain Usage Profile
Auditory : 56%
Visual : 43%
Left : 47%
Right : 52%
Kyle, your hemispheric dominance is equally divided between left and right brain, while you show a moderate preference for auditory versus visual learning, signs of a balanced and flexible person.
Your balance gives you the enviable capacity to be verbal and literate while retaining a certain "flair" and individuality. You are logical and compliant but only to a degree. You are organized without being compulsive, goal-directed without being driven, and a "thinking" individual without being excessively so.
The one problem you might have is that your learning might not be as efficient as you would like. At times you will work from the specific to the general, while at other times you'll work from the general to the specific. Sometimes you will be logical in your approach while at other times random. Since you cannot always control the choice, you may experience frustrations not normally felt by persons with a more defined and directed learning style.
You may also minimally experience conflicts associated with auditory processing. You will be systematic and sequential in your processing of information, you will most often focus on a single dimension of the problem or material, and you will be more reflective, i.e., "taking the data in" as opposed to "devouring" it.
Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself - and of others - while maintaining an "openness" which is redeeming. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity is not in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, the more obvious and the more functional.
Something new.
For everyone out there who has been awaiting more tunes, I uploaded a new one a little bit ago. It's a little thang I like to call "6 Fifteen"
The basic idea came to me a week ago. I just closed my eyes and went with what ever came out... and this it. I've done some polishing and fine tuning, but this is pretty much the way it happened.
What you get to hear is the A1 and B2 parts. the "1 parts" tell the story, and the "2 parts" are me just going off in a frenzy like I like to do.
I think it's still a little fast at 100 bpm, so I'll probably re-do it at about 95 or maybe even 90 depending on how it feels. Gotta relish the moment, you know. Don't rush it. It's all about the moment...
I think that's a pretty good way to end the day right there.
What a day, part II
Well 'ol fuzz face died this morning around 11:40 AM. It was sad to see her go, but it was her time. On the plus side, at least I don't have to worry about her anymore.
Spent all day working on getting a ton of video deliveries ready. I didn't get them all packaged in time to make it to the post office, so I"ll have to do that first thing in the morning.
Went to the gym tonight and did biceps and back. Man, I'll tell you what, if I wasn't into working out and stuff, I'd probably have some serious issues with things. WTF IS THIS BUZZING NOISE COMING FROM THE CORNER OF THE ROOM?!?!?!?! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH It sounds like a jack rabbit or something. I'm not sure what that means exactly, or what that even is.
Anyways, I'm just gettin' in and I need a break. I'm going to go watch some TV.
Eh I'm here.
Ok, in case by some odd chance, you missed the half-time show in the Super Bowl yesterday. Go to Erin's site (link on the left) and view her post about it... then click on the line that says, "The Suspense is Killing me"..... For a surprize. (Not work friendly)
What a day
I don't quite know what to make of today. I've been in a funk all day for some reason.
Finally got a chance to watch this Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD that came with a box set of CD's I got about 2.5 years ago today... LOL It was from his performance on "Austin City Limits" I already have the VHS version, but I think there were some additional songs added on this one. Sweet
I actually ended up watching it 2x and fell asleep during the second half on the couch.
Went over to Jack and Pam's for a super bowl party. Good crowd there... 20 people or so. It was quite a good game. The first half was pretty slow for the most part, but it picked up towards the end.
After that fun, headed over to Jon's to borrow some DVD's and let him borrow some midi cables.
I'm working on something, but I should be back on here in about 2 hours.
Peace.
