Day 3 of Being 31: King Kong

... and Day 1 of 2006...

Day 2 was spent mostly in Nashville celebrating New Year's 2006. We ended up getting home around 3:30 AM. I was up and at church at 8:15 AM. And... thus started day #3.

Have you seen the Peter Jackson version of "King Kong" in the theater yet? I just got out of it 5 minutes ago. Two words to describe it, -Holy Crap-. To sum it up in one word, -INTENSE-. Tthe first 55 minutes are a little slow, the remaining 2 hours 5 minutes (it's almost exactly 3 hours long) are NON-STOP action. I guarantee that you will be on the edge of your seat those last couple of hours.

Initially I did have a problem seeing Jack Black as one of the main characters... in such a serious role. I'm thinking "Shallow Hal" and "School of Rock". It took about the first half of the movie before I could get over that.

As I observed Kong's reaction to the beautiful Ann Darrow, it became easy to parallel the reaction of pretty much all males to a beautiful woman. You feel the need to save her from peril, defend her from bad guys (in this case dinosaurs)... and pretty much, in the end, you end up dying for the one you love. Isn't that how it works?

Please note, there are some fairly gruesome death scenes. Be prepared for that.

I really didn't need to see giant leeches come up out of the water, latch on to this one guy and then proceed to devour him. If that scene would have been left out, I think the movie still would have been ok.
