Kids Say The Craziest Things

I spent most of yesterday afternoon at the ball fields with my girlfriend and her daughter. Afterwards we were heading to Dairy Queen and she said, "Mommy, why don't you and Kyle hurry up and get married so I can have a baby sister." Interesting.

We've only been dating like 2 weeks, but it feels like we've been together for so much longer. It's weird in a very cool way. I've never felt at such ease with any girl I've ever dated before. It's like we're on the same page and have found ourselves about to say the same things at the same time several times already.

The only other time that has happened has been when I've been my really good friends who I've spent a lot of time with. Most obviously, Jeff, and to some extent J-mo. A lot of times we can finish each other sentences. That is slightly scary. LOL

Being an enginner, I tend to analyze everything. When I look at us, I see the potential for such an amazing serious relationship. Of course, it will take time to develop, but I think we are well on our way. All I know is, life is good.

The other night we had a discussion on the 4 key areas to a successful marriage. After listening to Dave Ramsey for 5 years, I've heard all kinds of couples call in with issues and Dave has done a great job of breaking out the 4 main areas couples have problems with:
1. Money Fights/Money Problems, are the leading cause for divorce in
America. So it makes sense to be on the same page here.
2. Kids, the
couple
must agree on how many to have, and how to raise them.
3. In-Laws,
the couple
must agree on 'boundaries' on letting the in-laws affect their
lives.
4. Religion, the couple must share a common faith and value
system

To me, it makes an immense amount of sense to get these 4 areas out there right from the get-go. I mean, since it's a given that these are the areas many couples struggle with, why not try and be proactive and talk about them up front? I encourage anyone who is in a relationship to openly discuss these topics before getting heavily involved, because if there is a major disagreement on any of those issues, it will lead to problems later. And who wants major problems in their lives, if they can be avoided?

Hmm... it's almost dinner time. I leave you with those thoughts as I am getting a little hungry now.

Ponder and discuss.

You can call me, "The Butcher"

So we're still auditioning singers for the band. I knew that one of the songs on the list tonight was, "Pull Me Under" by Dream Theater. It is an absolutely rockin' song. There is a fun little breakdown in the middle where everything drops out more or less and the keyboard does a little solo. Well, I had practiced this solo intently for the past 2 days, probably spending a good two hours on the 30-second segment to make sure I knew how it went.

We're trucking along, I hit the first couple notes, then went blank. No idea how it went. And, this is the kind of music where, if you don't know how the lines go, you can't improv over it, like I'm use to doing in other situations. We did the song 3 times. I never got it once. %^$%^#^%%#^&^&$&^*

Everything else went well though. Thank God. Well accept for the song, "Synchronisity" by The Police, which I hadn't worked on. After two hours we were sure that we were going to have to move on to the next contestant on Alabama Idol. It's hard to find people who can sing RUSH songs. I am looking forward to getting back out on the circuit, bringing the insanity of progressive rock to the masses, and getting the old Einstein fan base back.

We gotta have a vocalist first though.

Immigrant Rights?

How do you feel about the protests that have been taking place this week all across America in regards to the illegal aliens?

******
Caution
It's not often political subjects fire me up... but this one does.
Its a little all over the map, no pun intended.
******

***************************
First some helpful definitions......

IMMIGRANT: A person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another

ALIEN: adj.
1. Owing political allegiance to another country or government; foreign: alien residents.
2. Belonging to, characteristic of, or constituting another and very different place, society, or person; strange.

n.
1. An unnaturalized foreign resident of a country. Also called noncitizen.
2. A person from another and very different family, people, or place.

ILLEGAL: Prohibited by law.
*************************

Of course Immigrants have rights.

The group that doesn't have rights, are illegal aliens, and that's what we're dealing with.

Things are getting heated up over this issue, and I'm glad, because we need to do two things. First, build a 2000-mile wall along the America/Mexico border. Second, we need to get everyone who is here illegally out of the country.

It has nothing to do with racism. It has everything to do with protecting you, I, and our kids not only from terrorism, but from unnecessary and burdensome costs on the American economy. I don't care where they are from. They need to be removed.

Who do these illegal aliens think they are? Invading our country and driving up the costs of insurance and education for those of us who work hard and then demanding we let them stay and make them citizens because they are hard workers. They are illegal aliens for the love of Pete. They don't have any rights and are not entitled to a single thing. Since when did doing something illegal warrant a reward? That's what I want to know. Everyone is acting like the aliens are the only ones who work hard and put in 50 or 60 hours a week. I know tons of people who work 2 or 3 jobs and work at least that much. That line wont fly with me, and it shouldnt fly with you either.

What should have happened is, during all these protests, everyone participating should have been rounded up and shipped to Mexico. Then, those who had proof of citizenship could be let back into the country. Although, I wonder, why any American citizen would be supporting the insanity of granting amnesty to the illegal aliens. Even at this point, if amnesty were granted to the some 20 million illegal aliens, how are we going to stop any more from coming in?

The people coming into this country are one of three types: (1) They want to have a better life for their family and realize the American dream (2) They want to just come here, work and give the money back to their family in Mexico, or (3) They want to take over our country. 58f Mexicans believe that we unjustly took the Southwest from them in the mid 1800s when we bought it from them for $15 million. That should scare anyone who reads that. Over half of the population feels we have done them wrong, some 200 years ago.

You are aware of the outstanding medical care we have here. We go through a lot of preventative health maintenance to make sure we don't get things like measles, chicken pox, etc. I can guarantee you that they don't have that in Mexico. Who knows what kind of communicable diseases they may be bringing over here.

You. I. We work hard to provide for our families, and these people are stealing from each of us. Of course, it sucks for them that they live wherever they came from. I understand their desire to come over here and do better for themselves and their families. But, we have a system in place and it needs to be respected and utilized. When they work and dont pay taxes, you and I are the ones who foot the bill by paying more. Do you want to pay more taxes? Did you realize dozens of hospitals in Southern California have had to close because they could not afford to stay open due to all the forced health care?

Doesn't it stand to reason, that legitimate immigrants who came into this country properly are not happy about this entire issue? I would say, that indeed, they are upset with those who just come on in and aren't forced to go though the process the correct way. Those who played by the rules are being slighted. The process is being cheapened.

America is the greatest country in the world. Stop and look around. You don't see people clamoring to go to Canada or Mexico do you? You don't see people scrambling to get into China, France, or Germany do you?

(insert side rant about lazy people)
Everyone wants to come to America because we are a free and prosperous country. You have a chance to make it here. You can live whatever life you want. It's up to you as an individual. You can CHOOSE to be successful and have a good life, or you can CHOOSE to be unsuccessful and not have anything. Blame can not be placed on the government or anyone else for the failure of a person to not get ahead. Everyone who is here legally has an equal opportunity to be a success or a failure.

Case in point, read CNN's story about a Taiwanese couple who met in graduate school in the 80's. They are now in their late 40's and have an annual household income of $125,000. They have a decent income, but read the article and see how they've sacrificed and planned to make a good life for themselves and their 2 teenage kids. This is what it's all about: http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/31/pf/millionaire/lee/index.htm

(end side rant)

In the April issue of TIME magazine, American's responded with the following on this topic of immigration:

Who wants to build a 2000 mile fence along the America/Mexico border? 56o
Should the military guard the borders, 62ay yes
Should we deport all 20 million illegal aliens, 47ay yes. (surprisingly low)
Illegals should be denied govt health care and food stamps, 75gree
Illegals should not have a driver's license, 69gree (who in the world thinks it's a good idea for people who don't know how to drive, and who cram 18 people into a Ford escort, to have a license?)

Some people say, "What about all the jobs American's don't want to do?" As of this week, we are at the lowest unemployment rate in years, at 4.7American's who hold to the mentality that "A job is below me" need to have their head examined. There is no such thing. A job is a job. Sure there are jobs that we would rather not do. But, if you've got bills to pay and a family to feed, you get out there and do those jobs. Be responsible and get a job, or two, or three. Don't expect the government, or anyone else to come in, and take care of you.

(save rant on those who feel they are entitled to something because they live in America)

So how is this all going to play out? I fear the politicians are going to pander to the Hispanic population, which is now the largest minority group in America. Legal Hispanics now hold a sizeable portion of votes in the border states and in order to cater to this demographic I imagine we as a country will lose, unless we take action.

Write to your state reps, join the minuteman effort along the border, express your disdain at the actions that are being taken.

Thats the only way.

First Storm of 2006

A Picture Share!
Somz and Melissa.,
originally uploaded by java boo boo.

This Friday night didn't turn out anything like I had expected. At work today, we got 59 minutes, so I got to leave at 3:00 PM. Came home, surfed, and then napped until 7:00 PM.. because I knew a bunch of us had planned to go see Bishop Black at Sammy T's...

Sara called me out on it tonight... "I thought you hated Sammy T's" (she and I have had this -clubbing- discussion many times)... I really do dislike the place. I was just going because everyone else was going and my friends were playing. And, if everyone else is there that I know... I will at least have a decent time.

J-mo and I grabbed food at Applebee's around 8:00 PM. Meanwhile, I was playing phone tag with Somz and Jawana. Jawana was on her way to Hville. We decided to meet up at Leslie's and head from there to the gig.

So we met up with Somz, Leslie, and Melissa... by this point it was already 9:30 PM. When we got ready to leave, the tornado sirens went off. We played it safe and went back inside to check the news. Good thing we did, because shortly there after almost golf ball sized hail began raining down. It was freakin' loud.

We all had our cameras out, and we're taking pix... of ourselves... in the bathroom ... in case it was our last night together on the face of the earth (more will be posted on the main page once J-mo sends them to me).

I had the ingenious idea of duct taping ourselves together (after all, remember I keep some with me at all times, in case my head feels like it's going to explode) so it'd be easier to find us after the tornado. They all thought it was funny... ummm.. but I was kinda being serious.

Anyways, we ended up having a "storm party" at Leslie's until about 11:30 PM. Good times... well as good as could be had when tornados are being spotted all around you.

Hope you all survived ok. Damage assessments in the morning...

Maybe That Is Me.

Since the start of daylight savings time, my sleep schedule has been off. Last night, I found myself up late watching the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. It just so happened to be a good night to be up late (11 PM is late for me) because Jennifer Anniston was on there. And, I don't know about you, but to me she's fairly easy on the eyes.

At one point, Jay asked if she liked her house to be neat and tidy. Jennifer replied with something along the lines of, "Of course, but I'm not OCD, where everything has to be arranged perfectly." She then proceeded to arrange Jay's show notes on his desk and Jay said, "Aha! You had to arrange it so the edges were perfectly aligned."

That struck a chord with me. I think I'm OCD. It bothers me when things aren't aligned perfectly, and I feel the need to straighten them up. I can't have things in a state of disorder. At my desk at work, I keep all my folders in even rows. Everything is in its own place. If it's not, I put it where it should be. I find I can't get any work done when things are not in order.

In the past, I've had people me to watch this movie that was made in the late 80's or early 90's... for the life of me, I can't recall the name, but it's about an engineer who goes crazy or something. They say, anyone who works in a cubicle should watch it. I gotta find out what that movie is titled. LOL

Week 3.
Welcome to week three of the promotion. Things are going great. The most difficult aspect is overcoming this feeling of weirdness I experience when I give out and review work assignments. It's only weird because everyone is older than me. Ten, fifteen, and some twenty years older than me. Also, they have a lot more experience than I do. Some are actually former pilots. As for me, I've never even been in a helicopter, so yeah, that's definitely weird.
