I need help deciding on a canon powershot g9 or s5is. The g9 shoots raw, has 6x optical zoom, and uses special batteries. The s5 shoots jpeg, has 12x optical zoom, and uses aa batteries. Both have a hotshoe for external flash and both allow for lens adapters to be added for extra zoom or wide angle shots. I should probably get one before the honeymoon... Running out of time.

I haven't heard much about the s5is but I have heard a TON of good feedback about the g9...that would be my bet.
I got your message last night...sorry I wasn't about to get back with you then. So you just want a business card or something to put by it? I really appreciate that...but don't feel like you have to.
I'll give you a call later today!
I own a 10x optical (different brand) and honestly, I would never go with anything less than that again.
Thx for the input. I opted to go with the G9. I hopped online at B&H and got it 2-day express shipped Tuesday. It's gonna be here tomorrow. I like the compact size and the fact that it's 12 MP, and from what I read, I can get a decent 16x20 out of it if need be.
I've had my Olympus C4040 for 6 years. got it when it first came out and paid nearly $850 for the cam and batteries and mem card from B&H. This newest, and much better camera was about 1/2 that! I hope it lasts me 6 years like the Olympus did. If we weren't honeymooning in Chatanooga this weekend with the pretty fall leaves, I would not have been in such a rush to get a new digicam, because the Olympus is still going strong... but a little dated in terms of pic quality.
Now, I think we might wade into the photography market, in a studio environment, using what was going to be the billiards room as a multi purpose studio for family portraits, and product shots for ebay sellers and other type clients.
I like the idea of being in a controlled consistent environment.
Dave, yeah we mentioned you in the wedding program and we want to make sure that everyone knows who helped us out with what!
We can talk more later.

I just got a Cannon PowerShot A720 off of NewEgg.com. I LOVE it. It is 8MP, 6X zoon, came with a 1GB card, card reader for the PC and case for $214 with shipping.
We use Canon cameras for our video business, and they do fantastic, so I have a hard time going with non-Canon products.
My G9 came via UPS today, and I just got done charging the batteries. Can't wait to try it out!
These days, I really think it is hard to go wrong with any digicam though... they are all so advanced and have good rez!.
