today, i was wondering if you are planning on spending less on gifts compared to last Christmas. the current economic situation is proving to be vexing to quite a lot of people it seems. we have started talking about setting a budget for this years season. last year we kind of went over board and are going to try and reign in the spending and focus more on what matters: spending time together as a family focusing on our faith and Jesus.
We have also been wondering about our daughter's belief in santa. she is going to be ten soon and still believes in santa and the tooth fairy. It's probably time to let her in on the gig. especially since future christmas gift giving sessions will be much different going forward with the birth of Brayden.
I know a lot of people who never teach their kids about santa. it might actually be a good thing to help keep things real, especially since mom and dad are working to survive.
my goal is to drive home the point that It's all about quality, not quantity. likewise, the best gift one can receive is to do something for someone else. the feeling of doing good is what really is important.
I want my kids to enjoy the season, but for the right reasons.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but here's how my parents handled it. My parents were not particularly religious folk (especially when I was a kid) and they explained to me that Santa was more a spirit than a live person. Like, God isn't a physical being, but he works through physical beings on Earth. Santa embodies the spirit of giving and charity. So even though "Santa" isn't real in the sense that he doesn't have a physical body, what he stands for is real.
Now, the Tooth Fairy, I can't help you with that one.
very interesting. thank you for you perspective!
tooth fairy.. yeah though one there.
