Back to Social Insecurity

I'm sure everyone has heard about it... it's the top news story again today. It looks like 4% may be the magic number in regards to how much we can put into a private retirement account.

I ran some numbers: $100/mo for 40 years @12% = $1.1 million.

Does that make you happy? It better. Your future depends on it.

Support this bill. It has a proven track record in other countries (and Galvaston Tx?) where it has been implemented. You certainly don't have anything to lose. For those of us in our 30's or younger... we're going to be on our own retirement plan by age 65 anyway.

Tsunami
I want to talk a bit on this topic about "how little" the US was going to send at first. This is because, people who are making that argument do not have any understanding of how these relief efforts work. Some big-wig lady called into Sean Hannity today, and just could not understand... Good Lord help us.

It's not like this happened here. It happened in a region 1/2 a world away that does not have a good infrastructure and is not as technologically advanced as us. It stands to reason it would take 24-48 hours to determine the amount of aid necessary. Immediately after the disaster Powell was on the phone saying the USA would do whatever was necessary... and we have. $350 million from the government.. and $200 million so far in private cash. As the totality of the devastation was learned, efforts were increased in proportion.

It's more than money though. It's our ships, aircraft, volunteer orgs, and various subject matter experts (engineers, doctors, etc) whom we've sent over there. Without question we have a leading contingent in many technological areas, and this can not be overlooked.

I'm sure everyone has heard of the stories about people having to make a choice between saving a loved one and saving a stranger... or the one where the lady was holding 2 children and had to let one go in order to save herself and the infant... those are truly heart wrenching.

All I did today was listen to the radio... all day... the stories of survival are amazing.

Did God Do It?
I've heard a lot of talk on if this was tsunami was God's doing... punishing the muslim's over there for their terrorism. It seems there are A LOT of people out there who believe this.

Me? I'm not sure....

Life On Mars
Tonight I saw the most incredible show on Alabama Public Television. It was a documentary on the NASA Mars Rover missions. They have found a mineral associated with water... where there is water, there may be life...

Can you imagine the magnitude of such a discovery as life on Mars??

How would that affect the world as we know it??

Conclusion
Open your mind and be cognizant of what's going on in the world around you. Think. Do not blindly accept what others say as fact. My friends, reason for yourself and you will come to a higher level of understanding.
